How many hours a day do you spend staring at a screen?

Don’t worry, you don’t really need to answer that question. We think it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s too many. Whether you’re working in front of a screen all day, or just trying to relax with some Netflix at night

It’s almost certainly what’s led to the recent online trend to ‘analog your life’.

If you’re not familiar with this trend, it’s where people, somewhat ironically, post about the different activities and hobbies they’re taking part in offline. People are journaling, knitting, painting, reading, writing, and much more. Really, as long as there are no screens, anything goes, and if you’re looking for some new hobbies, it’s a great way to start. But if you’re not particularly inclined to invest in supplies to start something new, or if none of those hobbies are calling to you, let us offer you another option. You can spend time going analog in our classes at Oxygen Yoga & Fitness. In fact, doing so might not only lessen the time you spend online but also fight back against the effects online life has on you. Here are some ways that joining us for a class can help you recover from your online burnout.

An Hour with No Temptation

As much as we try to avoid it, technology has a way of calling us back. You swear you’re going to check just one thing on your phone and an hour later you realize you’ve gone down a rabbit hole or responded to dozens of emails. Taking a class with us takes away the temptation. Your phone will be safely locked away, and you’ll have the accountability of the entire class to keep you focused on the task in front of you.

Connect with Others IRL

One struggle of going analog in our modern day life can be how much of our social lives are ruled through our phones. How do you meet new people or even meet up with the people you already know if you’re not online to respond to their messages? One great option is picking a workout class to attend regularly. If you’re trying to meet new people, you’ll soon become familiar with the other regulars in class and might find a friendship sparks sporadically. Or, if you want somewhere to meet up with your friends without having to talk through any of the details, pick a class and trust that you’ll both be there when class starts each week.

Improve your posture

Taking class at Oxygen Yoga & Fitness can not only give you a great reason to get offline for awhile, but also help work back against the bad posture the time you’re already spending online is probably causing. A pilates class, for example, puts specific focus on aligning your neck and fixing your posture to ensure you’re exercising the right muscles.  Any class you take your instructors can help you find your proper alignment and getting your body moving and out of the posture you spend the rest of your day in may have a positive effect on your overall posture.

Improve your mental health

Spending all your time online can not only affect your physical health, but also mental. In fact, UC Davis Health shares that social media use has been suggested to increase feelings of anxiety and depression. Luckily, working out can also benefit not only your physical but also mental health. Aerobic exercise can reduce anxiety and depression, as well as a myriad of other benefits like decreased stress, increased self-esteem, and better sleep.
